Born Again: Original Samples

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]
Since today we are seeing the release of the Notorious movie soundtrack, we thought it would be appropriate to release the Biggie sample sets that we have in the stash. That’s right, I said sets… plural. Last year we released Ready To Die and Life After Death with Hip-Hop Is Read ([Only Registered Users Can See Links]). Those are really the only two Biggie albums that should matter, but we decided to hit up his posthumous releases as well.
Born Again was created with no input from Biggie himself and was mostly comprised of old and unreleased verses with new production and guest verses. It wasn’t a totally bad album, but nowhere as great as his first two releases. These sets mark Day 13 of our January Month of Samples. Enjoy!

When I heard this album was being released a few years again, I literally cringed. I don’t think there were enough Biggie verses in the vaults to warrant another posthumous release. Though it was kinda cool to hear Biggie over production by Swizz Beatz, Havoc, Jazze Pha, and Just Blaze… so there turned out to be some nice cuts on here. This one is pretty low on the samples that we could find, so fill free to help us fill in any blanks.
We did not include any of the original Biggie tracks where his verses were pulled from. Check out our RapCredits page ([Only Registered Users Can See Links]), which includes the full credits.

Ready To Die: The Samples
[URL="[Only Registered Users Can See Links]"][Only Registered Users Can See Links] ([Only Registered Users Can See Links])
This is what happens when you get two hip hop heads together… and it’s about time! After months of discussion and about a week of diggin’, Ivan (from Hip-Hop Is Read ([Only Registered Users Can See Links])) and myself are proud to present our first collective sample collaboration. We picked a huge one for our first effort… The Notorious B.I.G.’s 1994 debut album Ready To Die. The amount of samples used in this classic album were so many that we had to split this project up into 3 Discs!
The production of Ready To Die is commonly credited to Sean “Puffy” Combs, as he acts as the album’s Executive Producer. The fact is most of it was provided by Combs’s Hitmen Productions squad and producers including DJ Premier, Pete Rock (according to an interview, “Juicy” was stolen from him) and Lord Finesse. Combs produced the interludes on the album and co-produced three songs, including the first two singles. The production is mainly sample-based with the samples varying from the percussion of funk tracks to the vocals of hip hop song.
Enjoy this collection and expect more sample collaborations from Ivan and myself. Download links are after the tracklist.
